Autumn/Winter Nail Trends 2013

As the dark nights close in and the hours of daylight become shorter this means only one thing, Autumn is on it’s way. New seasonal trends emerge on the catwalks of New York and Paris to inspire this years fall collections. Trends change almost over night from bright coral’s to a darker palette of rouge noir red’s, deep navy’s and vamp shades of purple’s.
With new polish collections released from O.P.I, Essie and Zoya to name a few, mystical shades of navy blue are featured strongly throughout. Try Essie’s ‘After School Boy Blazer’ for an effortless rock chic look. Last year CND Shellac released ‘Midnight Swim’, the ultra-dark blue proved popular with my clients for it’s subtle shimmer. They also released ‘Pretty Poison’ a forest green at the same time, however it failed to take off. With CND releasing two new green shades this year I cannot help but wonder whether it will dissatisfy.

The vintage colour appears to be making a come back in the form of Gelish ‘A Touch of Sass’ to give any women a powerful appearance. This year try a deep plumb such as Shellac ‘Dark Dahlia’ or O.P.I ‘Boris and Natasha’ for a unique twist on black. I was lucky enough to attend Sweet Squared’s Sweet Innovations event on Monday where Samantha Sweet herself was wearing ‘Dark Dahlia’. This colour looks fab against softer skin tones compared to black.
We all know shades of nude have been flying off the shelves of Nails Inc. throughout summer. But the trend isn’t going to stop yet! Nude colours match every outfit, chips and re-growth are virtually invisible and there’s so many to choose from. So if you don’t like dark colours on your nails, nude shades are perfect for you. 3D nail art such as diamanté’s, bows and studs have proved popular so far this year but now’s the season to say goodbye to thousands of 3D jewels and say hello to foil. Foil is super easy, cheap and creates a look fit for the runway. I used silver foil and Shellac ‘Midnight Swim’ to create an autumn/winter manicure.
This autumn/winter my prediction is vamp purple’s and navy blue’s will prove the most popular colours and foil in silver and gold will be the perfect accessory. Also, look out for tartan inspired nails this season.
